Patty Postanowicz, Ph.D

Dr. Patty is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in East Cobb, Georgia, and a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Her style is direct, compassionate, and grounded in real talk, with a good dose of humor along the way. She believes therapy works best when clients come ready to dig in and do the work, and those are the clients she sees the best results with.

Dr. Patty works from a systemic lens, meaning she sees the issues clients bring to therapy as shaped not just by family of origin, but by the full context of their current lives: work, friendships, community, and partners. She draws primarily on Intergenerational Family Therapy and Narrative Therapy, along with elements of psychoeducation and cognitive behavioral work, to help clients understand their patterns and make lasting change.

Dr. Patty loves working with kids (she has two of her own), but young children aren’t her specialty. Her ideal client is age 16 and up.

Credentials

Dr. Patty holds a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Florida State University, an MS in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University, and a BA in Psychology and Women’s Studies from Clark University. She is licensed as an LMFT in the state of Georgia and accepts most major insurance plans, including United Healthcare, BCBS, and Medicare.

In addition to seeing clients part-time in private practice, Dr. Patty serves full-time as a Professor and Program Director for the Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy program at National University.

Outside the Office

Dr. Patty is married with two kids and one very cute English Bulldog. She has called East Cobb home for 15 years and brings that same sense of community and connection into her work with local clients and families.
